Fishing Lake Michigamme in Upper Michigan’s Marquette County on your own can be a very daunting task. This 4,360 acre body of water can take a first time visitor on the lake numerous days or weeks to have good success. At Upper Peninsula Premier Fishing Charters we are very experienced when it comes to fishing Lake Michigamme. Over half of our Inland Lake Fishing Charter clients choose to go to fish on this lake and the reason is because they’ve tried on their own and didn’t have much success. We know the right times of the year to target specific fish species and the right lures in combination with the right color patterns to use.

The maximum depth of the lake is 70 feet deep with plenty of bays, points, coves, and islands to fish around. Lake Michigamme has a great fisher and self sustained ecosystem. Just because the fish are hungry doesn’t mean they’ll hit your tackle. There are plenty of bait fish to feed on, so leave it to the experts to show you how to be successful on this big lake.

Muskies and Northern Pike are the big game fish located in the clean cool waters of the Upper Peninsula. This holds true for Lake Michigamme. These two predator fish are the food chain champions of this Marquette County Lake. The Pike range in size from 18” to 40” and the Muskies can get as large as 50”.

Smallmouth Bass are very plentiful in this U.P. lake as well. Smallmouth Bass tend to average 16” to 22”, not bad by any standard. Walleyes which are also plentiful average about 17” which is the perfect size for having a Yooper shore line lunch. Panfish such as Perch can get as large as 14”, these make for some tasty vittles while on your fishing adventure. Lake Trout also thrive in this Upper Peninsula inland lake, but are not as abundant as the rest of the fish species that are available. We don’t intend on fishing for the inland lakers, but there could always be a chance that you could hook into one. 

Van Riper State Park is located on the East side of Lake Michigamme and is a great spot to stay during the Spring, Summer and Fall. There are also cabin rentals available on Lake Michigamme, feel free to inquire about the ones that I recommend and I'll see if I can get a reservation for ;you and possibly a discount.
